You’ve lost your chance to get the world’s most expensive armchair! Because a luxury leather chair owned by Yves Saint Laurent was sold at Christie’s in February for a really record price - ÂŁ19.4 million (nearly $28 million). It was bought by specialist Paris art gallery Robert and Cheska Vallois. Dragons armchair was made by French designer Eileen Gray around 1917 to 1919. The unique armchair is upholstered in brown leather and touts a sculpted wood frame and brownish orange and silver lacquer finish. The chair was first owned by Suzanne Talbot, who was Gray’s first and most important patron.
This brown leather Yves Saint Laurent’s armchair was previously expected to sell for around £3 million. But then this rather small armchair, just 24 inches high, 61 cms, became a most expensive piece of 20th-century design ever auctioned. Such huge price shows that collectors still have a fierce appetite when presented with an opportunity to buy something unique and of the very best quality. Via:  telegraph.co.uk |
