A limited edition Chester sofa makes exciting use of traditional construction methods. The dramatic design is timber-framed, steel-sprung, stuffed with horsehair and buttoned. The leather pattern is the give-away as it mirrors the roots of the old classic version. But this new version is anything but a traditional piece of furniture. Designer Amanda Levete was influenced by the classic sofa and sculpture as well.
Sculpture came into play in the creation of the polyurethane shell upon which the cushion sits. The cushion was then transformed into a complete new shape creating a modern version of the old classic. The Chester’s design has obvious landscape qualities that allow it to sit as a freestanding piece in the centre of a room. |
