Bonhams, one of the world’s oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques, has sold recently a vintage Jaguar racing car for a record price of more than 2 million. The 1955 Jaguar D-Type Sports Racing Car ‘XKD509’ was sold to a British buyer for £2,201,500 (approx. $4.4 million). A previous world record of £1,706,000 was set in 1999. The 3.4-litre Jaguar D-Type went into production in 1955. The auction was held at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Chichester and this vintage car was sold on behalf of the Littlewoods Football Pools family. This most expensive car sold features an original subframe and tub, and the original 3.4-liter competition engine. Group Director of Bonhams’ Motoring Department James Knight said: “Once again the results of this magnificent sale demonstrate Bonhams’ ability to source a wide selection of collectors’ motor cars and automobilia and sell them in an arena which is going to attract bidders from around the world. We achieved some very strong prices for a wide spectrum of motor cars from the £133,500 for the Léon Bollée to £183,000 for Ferrari F40GTM Berlinetta.” Via: telegraph |
