Did somebody taste a £100 sandwich? It wasn’t a joke. Such expensive Von Essen Platinum club sandwich is served at a country house hotel Cliveden, Berkshire. Unusual lunchtime snack contains the finest sandwich ingredients from across the continent. For such high price I’d buy more than a dinner in some of the best restaurants around the world. Carlos Martinez, head chef at Cliveden, said: “We have made six sandwiches so far and the feedback has been very positive. It is a very good sandwich. We have used the top quality of every ingredient.”
The Von Essen Platinum club sandwich is a triple-decker gourmet delight containing the finest poulet de Bresse chicken, Italian Iberico ham, hard-boiled quails’ eggs, white truffles, semi-dried Italian tomatoes, mayonnaise and some seasonal salad. It weighs in at more than 1lb. The most expensive sandwich’s ingredients, white truffles, cost £1,250 a pound, the truffles alone in each sandwich cost £25. Britain’s previous most expensive sandwich, at £85, was developed by Selfridges’ executive chef Scott McDonald last year. Ireland’s most expensive sandwich, at 216 euros (£146), was made by Dublin restaurateur Johnny Cooke last year. Via:  dailymail |
