SHH Architects designed the new building as three elegant interlocking volumes, each one larger than the last and variously clad in timber, glass and stone. The Nu Asia restaurant in Bahrain is a delightful example of contemporary architecture, an attempt to blend the most varied elements into an apparently seamless blend of elegance.

The first 8.5m high ‘box’ is clad in dark timber slats, allowing the light to shine through dramatically at night-time, whilst protecting against the searing daytime sun. The second 9.7m high ‘Chinese lantern’ box is clad in dark glass and features applied aluminium mullions in a geometric pattern, whilst the third and final 12.2m high box is clad in stone, in the colour of sand to blend in with its environs, in seemingly random grain patterns. Lighting throughout is custom designed by SHH for the project. Most of the furniture on the project is also designed to be site-specific by SHH.

Welcome to The Binjai on the Park, the only freehold luxury property adjacent to the Twin Towers that can offer the requisite postal code, the view and suitably luxurious trappings. Built to mirror the world-famous Twin Towers of KLCC, the Binjai is a 100-unit international-styled residence and it is one of the rare residences in Kuala Lumpur to have an exclusive private lift lobby which is only accessible to a single resident unit using an access card, it’s 170 meters tall. The top level is rested with very rare luxury penthouses which comprising of 3 storeys and the 3rd storey is equipped with 43′ cantilevered private swimming pool.

The Binjai is KL’s own version of upscale Manhattan and central London. Interestingly, as part of the 18 million sq ft integrated mixed-use KLCC precinct, residents of the property will also be able to avail themselves to the services and facilities of the Mandarin Oriental KL, which is next door. This is in addition to the 50-acre park adjacent to the property, the Suria KLCC shopping center, the convention center and the Trader’s Hotel.

There are plans afoot to provide a buggy service to connect residents of The Binjai to the rest of the development. This view is available to every resident from the moment they enter the lobby. While not every room of every unit will have this rather spectacular view, the value of having such a view is a given.

Diva Beach, opening 26th September 2008, is the first in a new generation of ‘boutique clubs’ that exude luxury and style. This luxury club is inspired by Miami’s South Beach and is situated in the heart of Chelsea. The interior design draws on influences from Miami’s 1930’s art deco style combined with a more sophisticated beach culture. As you can see from the piccies, it’s quite a venue! Even the mirrors have been hand selected to make divas look sun kissed and gorgeous! The materials chosen include a bespoke blend of iridescent mosaics, layers of shimmer fabrics, hand-finished polished plasters and glistening marbles.

Diva Beach will also be the only club in London to offer the super premium Russian Standard Imperia vodka. Guests ordering ‘The Silver Service’ will be presented with the elegant and unusual 1.75l bottle served in a silver ice bucket engraved with their name and the date of their visit to Diva Beach. Wrapped around the neck of the bottle will be a silver chain and personalised dog tags to remind them of their evening.

The music comes courtesy of Chelsea favourite, DJ Sam Young; promoters Roger Michaels (Boujis), Andrew Dax (Paper, Maddox). Prices are also set to be inclusive and suit a variety of pockets and occasions, with single cocktails ranging from £8 to £14; champagne from £10 a glass to £10,000 for a Dom Pérignon 1999 White Gold Jeroboam; substantial sushi platters at £30. Diva Beach address: 222 Fulham Road, SW10. Open Tues-Thurs 7pm-2am; Fri-Sat 7pm-3am.

Italian design house Gianfranco Ferre has signed multi-billion dollar deal to develop real estate projects with a fashionable flair. Ferre is partnering with Mideast-based GIO Developments on the deal, and the first project, called “Gianfranco Ferre Stresa,” will be a mixed-use highrise in Dubai. New buildings from Gianfranco Ferre will include $1.2 billion tower that combines residential, commercial and hospitality spaces, and the partnership has dubbed it the first example of “concrete couture.”

Other similar projects are planned around the globe. Mr. Ferre himself, who was fittingly known as the “architect of fashion,” died last year. The company bearing his name already has a strong presence in the region with existing stores in Dubai, Beirut and Istanbul and new openings planned for Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait within the year. Other design houses currently collaborating on Dubai developments include Versace, Christian Lacroix and Elie Saab.

Dolce & Gabbana opened a new restaurant in Milan with smooth and shimmering golden accents everywhere.

Gold Restaurant serves international Italian food, and has several levels including a downstairs bistro that opens at lunchtime and a more formal upstairs that serves dinner only. According to the website, the golden theme isn’t necessarily intended to represent money and luxury (yeah right), but more importantly gold is “an upbeat, sunny color” that signifies a “taste for beauty and for sensual pleasure.” It is bright and beautiful, I’ll give them that. Now, how’s the food?
