New building pictures: Electrolux Cube Pop Up Restaurant

The Electrolux Cube Pop Up Restaurant is a newly designed temporary dining concept created by the appliance manufacturer Electrolux, designed by Italian architects Park Associati. Two Electrolux “Cube” restaurants will be popping up on a series of landmark sites across Europe over the course of 2011, starting with a placement on top of the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, Belgium. The Cube is visualized as a pop-up module that can be quickly taken down or built up and easily transportable. Constructed from lightweight materials, it is durably made to endure any form of weather. It is eco-friendly and covered with an aluminum skin exterior.

It offers a huge outdoor walkway with a nicely arranged serving area and an observable view to the centered kitchen. The aim is to create an experience that surprises and inspires guests with fantastic tastes and never-before-seen views, ultimately stimulating them to explore their own creative boundaries next time they entertain friends or family at home. The Cube by Electrolux will offer meals twice a day, everyday for three months in each location – lunch between 12:30-15:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 23:00 (TBC per location) during the week and special brunch and dinner times at the weekend.

New building pictures: Marc Jacobs Flagship Building, Tokyo

The newest Marc Jacobs flagship office in Tokyo was designed by Jaklitsch/Gardner Architects. It has a location on Omotesando-dori in the Aoyama shopping district. The three-story building is approximately 2,800 square feet, including two main sales floors and a lower-level space with a small sales area and storage. The building has got the neighborhood of many luxury stores, such as Cartier boutique and others. The building’s design is bordered by world-renowned architecture and a quiet residential neighborhood, and the desire to represent the tradition of craft that is inherent in Japanese construction.

Marc Jacobs Flagship Building image1.JPG

The building facade is conceptually striated into three horizontal zones: a void, rock and lantern. The ground floor “void” houses accessories and is completely transparent and visually open to the street. Women’s ready-to-wear is housed in the more private “rock” – a solid form clad in striated terra-cotta – and the “lantern,”serves as a beacon and sign for the building. The lower level houses men’s ready-to-wear and accessories. At the ground level, the goal was to have no visual interruption between the street and store’s interior.

Marc Jacobs Flagship Building image 2.JPG

A continuous water-glass facade blurs the distinction between inside and out. The Zimbabwe granite that covers the entire first floor extends out to street, forming the sidewalk in front of the building. The new building, which recently received a prestigious Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Architects, New York State, will replace the Marc Jacobs Collection store designed by Stephan Jaklitsch Architects in 2002. The building will complement the nearby Marc by Marc Jacobs Harajuku store as well as several Marc Jacobs accessories stores throughout the city.

New building pictures: World’s most expensive offices are in Tokyo now

For many years London with its West End was a record-holder across world’s most expensive offices prices. But today the statistics says that the most expensive offices are in Tokyo’s Inner Central District. Space costs there $183.62 per sq. ft. For reference, a year ago office space in London’s West end was approx. $300 per sq. ft., while today that space goes for $172 per sq. ft. The third place takes Moscow where the office space goes for $170.24.

World’s Most Expensive Offices,image.jpg

Some markets did record increases in costs over the last 12 months but these markets, such as Charlotte (U.S.), Marseille (France) and Perth (Australia), are very much the exception rather than the rule. Generally, these increases are either due to exceptional local market conditions, such as the completion of a top quality new building in a market where none was available previously, or simply that occupancy costs remain above the level of a year ago despite the fact that they are now falling. Such situations illustrate the uneven way in which the economic downturn is affecting different markets around the globe, according to the CBRE report.

New building pictures: Dubai world’s tallest arch bridge

Everything is different in Dubai, everything is the most expensive – shopping, cars, hotels, houses and even … bridges! Yeah yeah, world’s tallest and most expensive bridge would be built there. The bridge was envisioned by New York architecture firm Fxfowle. Total bridge’s expenses are $817 million. Dubai bridge will measure at one mile long and 670 feet tall.

Dubai world’s tallest arch bridge ,image.jpg

Once complete, the world’s tallest bridge is expected to carry more than 2,000 vehicles per hour in each direction and a metro line will run across the middle. It’ll be completed in 2012. I think Dubai may soon own almost every single Guinness World Record.

New building pictures: Golden Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower is as a stunning symbol of Japan’s recovery from the devastation of World War II when it opened on December 23, 1958. Though much has changed in the last 50 years, Tokyo Tower still faithfully performs its original prime function of beaming telecommunication signals across Japan’s largest city. To pay tribute to Tokyo Tower’s golden anniversary, jewelry company Ginza Tanaka makes 50 $510,000 24-carat gold replica built to scale, right down to the 4-story Foot Town shopping & dining center located beneath the tower’s supporting legs.

Gold Tokyo Tower.jpg

Weighing in at 5 kilograms or 11 pounds, “Golden Tokyo Tower” is the king of souvenirs and the poster-child for conspicuous consumption. The real Tokyo Tower stands 333 metres (1,000 feet) tall, just a few feet higher than Paris’ Eiffel Tower and quite a few tons lighter thanks to steel construction. The solid gold replica, on the other hand, has the ability to significantly lighten the purchaser’s wallet. However, there is no information about how many replicas of the monumental architecture have been made, but one thing is for sure, that it is an encouraging move in a time when the country is facing a high recessionary blow.

New building pictures: 70 million Stregis penthouse in San Francisco

Looking for the perfect gift? How about a $70 million dollar penthouse in San Francisco? Purchased for roughly $30 million as a raw shell in 2005, a real estate developer Victor MacFarlane has placed his huge St. Regis penthouse on the sales block for $70 million, a figure that would obliterate the previous record price tag for a San Francisco residence. Created by international award-winning interior design firm Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates, this exquisite two-story, grand penthouse designed for city living boasts floor-to-ceiling glass walls soaring 22 feet and incomparable 360-degree views of many San Francisco landmarks.

$70 million St.Regis Penthouse in San Francisco.jpg

This luxury penthouse features over 20,000 expansive square feet, including 2,900 square feet of terraces – one of the largest personal residences in all of San Francisco. One of the largest and most luxurious properties outside of Manhattan, the Museum Tower Penthouse atop the St. Regis Residences in San Francisco is one of California’s premiere residences. The question isn’t who would pay $70 million for a penthouse in this sinking ship of an economy, but rather what should the common Californian be thinking about when their pension fund is being held and managed by a real estate investment fund.

New buildings pictures: Shanghai tower - new tallest skyscraper

Construction projects are grinding to a halt as financing runs dry elsewhere in the world, but in China’s biggest city, they’re still going strong. On November, 29th Shanghai officially begins work on its tallest skyscraper - a 632-meter (2,073-foot) tower in the city’s Lujiazui financial center that will tower over the current highest building, the recently completed 1,614-foot Shanghai World Financial Center. Work on Shanghai Tower will cost approx. $2.2 billion and is expected to be completed in 2014. The 121-floor, glass-and-steel tower will include offices, retail space, a hotel and cultural facilities. Designers said it would be one of China’s greenest skyscrapers - its spiral shape would minimize wind resistance and energy consumption, and the top of the building would house 54 wind turbines.

Shanghai Tower.jpg

Though China’s economy is slowing and exporters are feeling the pinch, the sinuous glass building, to be called the Shanghai Tower, is one of a slew of government-funded projects that authorities are using to stimulate growth and create jobs. “Launching construction at this time will help boost Shanghai’s confidence in fighting the financial crisis,” Gu Jianping, manager of city-owned Shanghai Tower Construction & Development Co., declared to reporters.
