At this year’s Google I/O conference watchmaker Fossil Inc. introduced hi-tech wrist watch equipped by full programming framework associated with Google Android. Meta Watch can be full digital or analog with a traditional dial with two small OLED displays. It’s also possible to design custom embedded wearable applications running directly on your wrist, and it will be up to developers to truly unleash the magical possibilities here. The Bluetooth platform allows watches to receive push notifications from smartphones and tablets, so you can read e-mail, tweets, or Facebook updates.

The Meta Watch uses Bluetooth and open-source software to get timely information from a smartphone for displaying on watches designed to provide a handy screen showing important information. The wireless technology permits leaving the phone in the bag or pocket and getting the notices right on the watch face. Meta Watch comes in two models, a digital watch with an always-on display (96×96) and an analog model with two displays (16×80) for those who prefer a more traditional watch. Price: $200.

Baselworld is all about new innovations and new models. With Mo Eden’s ‘Digit’ watch #26 some may say that this ring watch recalls the roaring twenties or the art deco period when sheer elegance, opulence and individuality were in vogue. When women wore fur coats and men drove huge Blower Bentleys. Using diamonds and gold and a 2.5 carat aquamarine for the crystal it is easy to forget that this ring is actually a watch!

Developing such a bejewelled wonder that houses a watch movement has taken years and all the artisans that take part are some of the best in the world. These Haute joaillerie ring watches are handmade in London’s Hatton Garden jewellery district which steeped in ancient history. Digit watch# 26 is available with a fine Swiss 17 jewel incabloc movement or if you do not like to wind your watch a fine Swiss 5 jewel quartz movement can be fitted. Price: $16 000.

The design of Hysek Lady Stealth watch is quite complex which makes this watch a good one. A complex metal case, available in steel, gold, and two tones or decorated engraved design. The dial of the watch is of a small size, about 37 mm wide. This small space requires a Swiss quartz movement.

The lugs used in the watch are pretty articulate and would look good. The strap is tapered alligator. The name of the watch, “Stealth Watch” is a bit of a mystery as to what the name refers to. All in all, the watch gets thumbs up for its decent design.

2 Million € BB timepiece presented by Hublot at this year’s BaselWorld is a true masterpiece. One of the most expensive watches ever features just over 141 carats, 637 baguette diamonds, 1 rose cut diamond on the crown. Each diamond in the piece could adorn a ring. It took almost 12 months to bring this exceptional piece to life, more than 13,000 hours were needed to cut the stones (with 45 gemcutters working non-stop for 1 month) and 2,000 hours to set.

More than 270 carats of rough diamonds were chosen from a lot of 1500 carats, and from these the stones used were selected. The bracelet incorporates 18K white gold set with 353 baguette diamonds, total 102.62 carats. The piece shall first go on display in the Hublot boutique at 10 Place Vendôme.

Hot news from the Baselworld 2011! Luxury Swiss watchmaker Hublot presented the world’s first 100% carbon fiber chronograph. It features two “cathedral” type gongs, a tourbillion and column wheel chronograph, with carbon fiber bridges, in a case made from carbon fiber. This is a perfect illustration of “Fusion” between great watchmaking tradition and the technology of the future. It is a timepiece with a sophisticated mechanism, featuring three major Haute Horlogerie complications particularly prized by connoisseurs and collectors, but revisited in a resolutely contemporary spirit.

The main particularity lies in the fact that the three complications are visible from the dial side. Besides the carbon fiber, the case is also fashioned with materials such as titanium and rubber. The watcher’s flying tourbillion is situated at 6 o’clock, and features an unusual structure of very high quality: indeed, the cage rotates without a ball bearing, and has a Swiss lever escapement.

The 2011 Chanel J12 Chromatic is the collection seven models in sizes and variations. There are: 33 mm with quartz movements, 38 and 41 mm with automatic movements in two versions set with round or baguette-cut diamonds. The 38mm wide version will also have optional baguette or round-cut diamond covered bezel with matching diamond hour indicators.

Together the collection is not something that revolutionizes the Chanel J12 line, but is a further evolution in the concept and a step closer to ageless metal. I truly feel that in the near future when buying a high-end timepiece, part of that investment is the peace of knowledge that you new watch will remain visually outstanding for a long time. One material, one color: the J12 chromatic is a reflection watch, a mirror of changing times that only Chanel knows how to capture.

At this year’s Baselworld exhibition Russia will be presented by Konstantin Chaykin, member of the AHCI, with his Lunokhod masterpiece, a mechanical watch with a new solution of lunar phases indication. It is the most lively and realistic watch Moon in the world. Instead of using the classic indicator window through which a stylized image of the moon is usually shown maestro placed in his new watch a miniature copy of the Earth satellite. The ball is 12 mm in diameter, it is coated with the relief of the lunar surface and located in the center of the dial, and lunar phases are indicated by means of covering it up with mobile silver hemisphere.

This original way of indication reflects the real situation in the night sky of the Earth in the best possible way. When the moon moves in the orbit its sunlit changes. And this dark, shaded part changes in size, completely absorbing the night celestial body or revealing its beautiful face on the full moon. This effect is repeated in Konstantin Chaykin’s watch. The heart of the watch is a unique caliber, designed and built by Konstantin Chaykina specifically for this model.
