The building’s facade was preserved and restored, as were the Lobby, the Palm Court, the Oval Room and the hotel’s famed garden. Many decorative details from 1912, such as marble fireplaces in some of the suites, reflect this masterful blend of old and new.

The Ritz-Carlton, Montreal offers guests a wealth of amenities at their fingertips. The 10,000 square feet of meeting space are flexible and offer event planners the possibility of accommodating up to 300 people. Guests can dine at acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud’s restaurant, Maison Boulud, in the 130-seat dining room, the 46-seat year-round greenhouse, or on the new terrace on Sherbrooke Street. “Those who were familiar with The Ritz-Carlton, Montreal before the transformation will find the same attentive service and stately atmosphere, along with the new high-end amenities found in contemporary luxury hotels. Those who are discovering the hotel for the first time will enjoy a unique experience featuring impeccable service in a stunning setting and outstanding comfort,” concluded Mr. Torriani.

The Residence Zanzibar

The Residence Zanzibar which was designed by leading global design firm HBA / Hirsch Bedner Associates.
The all-villa resort is located on a remote corner of the island of Zanzibar and is the first project on the African continent for HBA’s Singapore office.
Stretching over 80 acres, the 66 villas designed by HBA boast a colonial theme and draw inspiration from the Swahili, Omani, British and Indian cultures present in Zanzibar.

Residence Zanzibar

Each villa has its own oasis with a private terrace and swimming pool, but the structures remain modern and natural, fitting in with the surroundings.

Residence Zanzibar terrace

All pieces of furniture at The Residence Zanzibar are a mix of cultures reflecting the various influences in Zanzibar’s history. For example, the four poster bed in the villas are reminiscent of British style and is flanked by two nightstands inspired by Indian forms and materials such as beaten metal.
Locally sourced artifacts found throughout The Residence include hand-painted artwork with various scenes of Zanzibar.
All of the buildings house a collection of interesting items including carved trunks in the Lobby, oversized Omani tea and coffee kettles in the Pavilion Restaurant, traditional Stonetown doors in the Dining Room and local handmade vases in The Spa.

In the villas, HBA used a color scheme of white and delicate shades of beige with honey colored woods and sandy tiles.
The result is a romantic and distinct setting where guests can indulge in a sophisticated environment.

The Residence features a state-of-the-art wellness center and spa.
The spa is set in five acres of tropical gardens and features six spacious treatment pavilions, each with its own private garden, outdoor shower, bathtub and relaxation area.
The Pavilion restaurant bathed in the rich, warm colors of Zanzibar serves exotic Mediterranean cuisine of Turkey and the Middle East.
The Residence also has a Beach Club restaurant that draws inspiration from a Bedouin tent.
The Dining Room Bar consists of local woods and a hammered copper bar.

David T’Kint and Hazlin Ahmad, HBA Associates noted, “We found Zanzibar to be a great resource for inspiration and sourced many of the artifacts and furnishings in the villas from local markets and shops.”

Trump Ocean Club Panama

The Trump Ocean Club Panama designed by HBA / Hirsch Bedner in collaboration with Ivanka Trump was opened July 6th.
Drewing inspiration from Panama’s rich culture and history, HBA as one of the leading global hospitality design firms created a dramatic and vibrant hotel.

Trump Ocean Club Panama

During the initial stages, HBA designers immediately connected with the local culture of Panama and chose to celebrate the seven indigenous Panamanian tribes. The tribes are known for their bright colors, stitching, pottery and geometric patterns. These influences can be seen in details throughout the hotel including woven masks, custom-made area rugs and fabrics. The tropics were another inspiration that can also be found in the rooms and public spaces where vibrant colors such as red, green and coral can be seen throughout.

Trump Ocean Club Panama lobby

Overall, the aim was to create a property that married the hotel’s spectacular ocean front location with the sensibilities of today’s sophisticated and chic travelers.
Betsy Hughes, Associate of HBA Atlanta noted, “The design combines local influences with unexpectedly modern elements, speaking to the changing landscape of Latin America.
One of the most distinguishable features of the hotel is the quality of light flowing throughout spaces of the building.
Since Panama is so close to the equator, the light bounces brilliantly off the water and changes throughout the day.”

Most expensive hotel: Colony Palms Hotel, Palm Springs, CA

Just 90 miles from Hollywood is located Colony Palms Hotel. Colony Palms is a hideout with a sordid past: Purple Gang mobster Al Wertheimer built the place in the 1930s, and it started out as a speakeasy, brothel and gambling house. Now an upscale boutique, it makes for good vacation living. Having recently re-opened after an extensive renovation, The Colony Palms Hotel, has regained its swagger as a stunning four-star boutique. The hotel was designed by Los Angeles based Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. There are offered 56 guest rooms & suites.
Colony Palms Hotel image.jpg
As with any Palm Springs property, the pool is the focal point of the hotel both at night and during the day. In the lobby, Moroccan-inspired design flourishes like brightly colored fringed pillows and settees dominate the visual scene. Guestrooms are ideally designed for relief from the desert heat, with thick curtains that keep out the light. Large textile headboards over the king beds and soft Italian linens practically beg guests to indulge in afternoon naps. The Moroccan Cocktails don’t hurt, either. More info from Colonypalmshotel.

Most expensive hotel: Hotel Teatro, Denver

After it was remodeled in 1997, the structure became the Hotel Teatro, Denver’s version of boutique luxury. Imagine a downtown enclave with glazed red brick buildings, where 20th-century warehouses are converted into restaurants and shops. The opera is nearby, along with a couple of world-class theaters. Right in the center, within walking distance of just about everything you need, is a renovated century-old building that houses a gem of a hotel. This is downtown Denver, where the Hotel Teatro offers a great city weekend with Rocky Mountain views.
Hotel Teatro image.JPG
Entering the lobby, which is filled with photographs and costumes from the Denver Center for Performing Arts next door, guests are greeted by the seriously friendly hotel staff. The lobby is cool and subdued and gives off a sophisticated vibe — decorated in rich colors and silk damask couches. The 110 rooms have high ceilings and oversize windows for taking in the neighborhood. Flights are available to Denver International Airport (DEN) from major U.S. cities on a variety of carriers. Transfers to/from DEN, which is about 32 miles away, are approximately $19 per person, each way.
