Instead of cats, dogs, hamsters, aquarium fish, chinchillas, snakes and even chameleon or iguanas Chinese pet lovers buy pigs! Thus, 2 years ago Li Yuan decided to get a pig as a pet. She bought a Bama, miniature piglet, from a market in Beijing. Such piglet usually weighs 15 or 20 kilograms, or 33 to 44 pounds. “I found him looking like a lovely baby at my first glance,” said Li, patting the pig’s huge belly. “Oh, my boy, you are destined to meet me,” she remembers thinking at the time. Li has cherished the pig so much she named him Laifu (or “fortune comes”).

“Indeed, he brings me good business and a peaceful soul,” said Li, a merchant. Pigs symbolize fortune, and hence why so many Han Dynasty royal families were buried with jade pigs in their coffins. Now Laifu can be hardly called miniature, the pampered pig is overweight at about 150 kilograms. Li spends $800 a month to rent several basement rooms to house Laifu. Moreover, she hired two nannies, who massage Lai Fu with essential oils daily in an effort to help him lose weight. He also takes vitamins everyday. Li said that he also likes listening to music; particularly the songs of Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou. Li Yuan never thought a pig could bring so much happiness and make friends so easily. “If you don’t like animals, how can you like people?” said Li.

It seems the world’s designers don’t feel financial crisis. Young Thai jewelry designer Riwin Jirapolsek shocked the world by creating $4.2 million diamond tiara for his 15 year-old dog. It was shown to the audience during Bangkok dog fashion show last week. Most expensive pet’s tiara was created from titanium and decorated by more than 100 karats diamonds and 153 karats of emeralds.

To make such expensive dog tiara he used precious stones given to him by his mother. It took him 2 months to finish. The designer has no plans to sell this luxury tiara, he crated it specially for Kanune, his Maltese pet. Riwin Jirapolsek told that the next time he will make a jewelry hair clip for his beloved Kanune. We don’t know what premier materials he’ll use to create that.

I hate snakes! I’m scarried of snakes! And I will never keep a snake at home! But many people like snakes and with pleasure keep them as luxury pets. Today I found a short review of worlds most expensive snakes. The first place goes to Lavender Albino Ball Python. The first python with these markings was found in Africa in 2003. This red-eyed snake is spotted yellow over a lavender background. Prices for one may reach from $20,000 up to $40,000.

The second place take 2 snakes - Leucistic Ball Python, a pure white snake with black eyes and Reticulated Albino Type II Tiger Python-that sell for $15,000. Anf finaly, the third place takes Genetic Striped Ball Python. The python gets its name from the wide, black-bordered, yellow stripe along its back. These expensive ophidians are sold for $5,000 for a apiece.
