Russian vodka lost its title of the world’s most expensive. Chase Vodka from England became the best in the world. It was presented in the 2010 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, beating 249 rivals from around the globe, including Russia and Poland’s finest spirits.

Chase is made on a farm in Herefordshire from 35lbs of potatoes. The potatoes are said to give Chase a sweetness which makes it taste better than traditional vodkas made from cheaper wheat or rye grains. First produced in 2008, Chase is the brainchild of potato farmer William Chase, the man who founded posh crisp company Tyrrell’s. “One of the unique things about our vodka is it is made from a traditional copper pot, which gives it its character.” – William Chase

Manhattan’s trendy hotspot, Covet is trying to attract the clients by its newest most expensive cocktail: The Icarus. It is priced at $160 per a glass. “This place is called ‘Covet,’ so I wanted to make something sensual, exotic, mythological,” said Orson Salicetti, the club’s head mixologist. “This is more than just a cocktail. It’s an experience.” At the same time for the month since the nightclub opened at 55th St. and Lexington Ave., they’ve sold only six such expensive cocktails.

The top of the shelf concoction is prepared by coating the inside of a snifter with his homemade absinthe, which is flambeed to bring out the botanical notes of the fennel-based spirit and create a caramelized coating. After swirling the glass with drops of Iranian saffron oil, Orso pours 2 ounces of magic drink Louis XIII cognac over the ice. If a customer orders the drink, Salicetti is exclusively summoned to make it.
