At the Sotheby’s Bauhaus design auction, a 1927 tea infuser by Marianne Brandt was sold for $361,000, breaking the sale record for the designer and the auction. Brandt’s Model No. MT 49 tea infuser is made of silver-plated brass and ebony and is stamped 137 to the underside and the rim of the lid.  It was sold to some private American museum on December 14. The auction was titled ‘Deutscher Werkbund to Bauhaus: An Important Collection of German Design.’ Other than the Brandt’s model, a 1927 tea set by Theodor Wende was sold for $180,000. The MT 49 tea infuser was expected to go for between $300,000 and $500,000. Via:  bornrich |
