Christie’s International sale in Hong Kong, witness the sale of the largest colorless diamond of 101.27 carats for HK $48.5(US $6.2mn) yesterday. The near flawless diamond with the third highest clarity rating of VVS1 and third best ranking on a scale used to measure colorlessness is one of the only four colorless diamonds over 100 carats to have come up for sale, last three being sold in Geneva previously. The internally flawless stone was cut from a 460-carat rough diamond and possesses 92 facets. The diamond, the highlight of Christie’s, was the size of a Ping Pong ball embedded in a Tiara, had a pre-sale high estimate of US$8million. The sensational diamond was put up for sale by an anonymous private individual and bought by a first-time auction buyer from Hong Kong who bid over telephone.

The stone was discovered in Premier Mine, South Africa’s biggest mine, where the world’s largest rough diamond, the Cullinan diamond was also found. Christie’s six day spring auction which included a total of 2,400 gems is estimated that auctions would fetch about HK$1.7 billion.

Camouflage and leather fringe are two of the touchiest fashion elements to work with, and although I’m not sold on whether or not he pulled it off I have to give props to Jean Paul Gaultier for tackling them both on the same bag.

I’ve covered the work of Xorin Balbes before this designer does some of the coolest interior design around Southern California rehabbing older homes into showplaces. He collaborated with architect Paul Ashley on this Palm Springs dream home, a four-bedroom contemporary built in 1974.
