Seven Shockingly Large Parking Fines from Around the World

Most expensive parking fees

Just driving in most cities is a struggle, have you tried parking in one? Many people are seeing a significant increase in the cost of parking tickets because they’re an easy way to generate revenue. With that in mind, here are a few of the more outrageous parking fines from around the world.

1. Chicago, Illinois: United States

It is very common across the United States for someone who is parking illegally in a handicapped spot to receive a fine of approximately $250. However, even if you’re driving a car with a valid handicapped license you can get an even higher fine if the pass is registered to another driver. Say you’re visiting your sick mother and she asks you to run to the pharmacy to pick up her medication. If you drive her car and park it in the handicapped spot, you will get a $500 fine for “misuse” of a handicapped parking pass. Better leave the grandma car at home and go for your Holden Captiva instead.

2.Pienza, Italy

Travelers beware! If you receive a parking ticket in Pienza, Italy; pay it immediately. In one instance, a gentleman traveler did not pay his ticket and was fined $72.75 from his car rental company in fees for assisting the Italian government in finding him as well as a parking fine of $178.29. The fine isn’t typically this high but when you skip out on paying your ticket they charge you fine violations as well.

3. Washington D.C.: United States

If you’ve ever considered driving around the capital city of the United States, we recommend taking public transportation or a taxi. Not only is the city laid out in the most convoluted manner but they have parking fines in the $500 range for idling excessively in a parking spot and a $250 fine for parking on private property without the owners consent. We’re still not certain how exactly they determine if you have consent or not as hunting down property owners can often be tedious work.

4. Sapporo, Japan

You had better keep a close eye on your car while visiting Sapporo, Japan. If a neighbor or concerned citizen calls in a car they do not recognize parked in the area late at night you open yourself up to a $103 fine under the heading “abandoned vehicle.” The only good thing, they do not tow the car that they believe to be abandoned immediately. The worse thing, they can ticket you at any time of day or night and if you’re sleeping, you’re getting a ticket.

5. Adelaide, South Australia

According to the Adelaide City Council’s handbook of fees and fines they have some pretty excessive fees. For parking in a handicapped spot you will have to fork up $334.50 (it’s $250 in America unless you’re misusing a parking pass). If you’re renting or short term leasing a place within the city limits you have to pay an annual parking permit fee of $330. You don’t just have to pay fines when you do something wrong, you have to pay one to be able to park at your home.

6. Marbella, Spain

If you want to park in Spain, pay close attention to signs and paint colors. Yellow paint means no parking, blue paint is metered parking, and there are signs denoting things like which side of the street you can park on in odd or even months. If you park somewhere they consider you to be obstructing the walking paths of people and/or animals you’ll be paying a whopping $130 fine. You can formally complain about it but while most countries end up throwing out contested parking fines, Spain will merely lower it by about $40 and charge you the rest anyway.

7. Atlanta, Georgia: United States

Want to visit “hot-lanta?” Make sure you’re following their parking regulations carefully. With the contraction of a private parking company, ticketing and fines have gone up significantly. If you accidentally stay parked after the expiration of your parking meter for any length of time your fine can run as high as $95 per infraction! With parking meters that don’t allow you to stay for your entire work day or more than 4 hours at a time locals run the risk of multiple infractions a week.

Parking that Holden Captiva can cause you a lot of problems around the world. Pay attention to signs, watch for paint colors, and if all else fails, ask someone who lives there for help. Avoid these outrageous fees by being proactive in your parking. If you wouldn’t do it in your country, don’t do it in someone else’s.

HYT H1 Hydro Mechanical Titanium DLC watches

The H1 by HYT is what happens when Haute Horlogerie meets fluid mechanics.

HYT luxury watches

As one of the two reservoirs at 6 o’clock compresses, the other expands, and vice versa, to push the fluids they contain through the tube. As the hours pass, the luminescent liquid advances. The half-moon meniscus marks the point where the two fluids meet to indicate the hour. At 6 pm, it returns to its initial position in a retrograde movement.

A 5 mm sapphire crystal, sculpted from a single block, accentuates the three-dimensional architecture. The upper part of the watch is a destructured geometry of superpositions and reliefs. The small seconds counter which overlaps the minute regulator in the centre bears a striking resemblance to a waterwheel. The 65-hour power reserve is shown at 2.30, divided into three arcs of a circle.
